– SERVICE DESIGN DIPLOMA –

The project to redesign the emergency contraconception delivery service in CESFAM, San Rafael in the district of La Pintana in Santiago, Chile, was developed to create a system that - in addition to making an effective delivery of the pill-  generates a bond between the user and the Family Health Centre in order to promote self-care behaviours based upon the purpose of the law that allows its distribution.

The research

In Chile, there is a law that allows the delivery of emergency contraception to minors of age, but it is not effective in more than 15% of the health centres because no experience and process design has been developed to enforce such right.

The proposal

It was proposed to develop a system to provide certainties about medical attention and the delivery of the medicine, including a post service phase to develop a bond with the centre based upon the arrangement of control appointments and self-care related activities.

A service access point was developed through an application and a web platform that informs and visualizes the process, allowing the visits arrangements and keeping a connection with the centre and protecting the users’ intimacy.  Additionally, a broadcasting campaign and post service material were designed.

 The Learning

For a right to be guarantor, it is necessary to secure an experience providing the required context and environment.  Accordingly, the design of services is a discipline inherent to the development of public policies, as it lets you understand the requirements and enables their materialization.
